Dating

In today's society people date for other reasons then finding a life partner.  The four functions in dating today are
1)Recreation- having a good time
2)Socialization- learn about how to interact with potential sexual partners
3)Status grading or status achievement- to enhance or project our status through who we date
4) Mate selection

For myself dating is a way for you to eventually find that one person that you want  be with for the rest of your life. Also through dating others you can find out a lot about yourself what you do and do not like, what are some of your better traits and what flaws you have. Meeting people to date depends on what your looking for if you want casual dating you would prob go to the bar.  But for relationships that you want to more then casual I would either meet people through friends, work, or school. a trend that beginning to get more and more popular is internet dating meeting people online rather then going out you can meet and get to know people online from the comforts of your own home.

  In today's society the main purpose of dating is hard to say for many people in their late 20's dating is geared towards mate selections.  While many in the early 20's date for recreation and socialization.  I think it all depends on the person and the environment that they grew up in.
