As our culture moves into the future many people have taken different perspectives on marriage other then that of the traditional marriage. The changes to traditional marriage include same sex marriages, common law,long distance relationships and open marriages. I am personally not offended by any of these options if the couple is happy then who are others to judge their relationships. When it comes to same sex marriages many people have issues, it goes against religion. In today culture many religions have evolved to modern day standards and are allowing same sex marriages in their churches and i don't understand that because you love someone who is the same sex as you how that impacts your religion and belief in God. To be forward and not trying to offend any one who is religious but why is it not OK for a couple of the same sex to marry but yet catholic priest are not allowed to get married or have sex with women so instead they have sex with young boys your own religious leader are participating in same sex intercourse. As far as I'm concerned if you love the person and want to spend the rest of your life together no laws should stop that.
Common law relationships are becoming more popular among people today. Many people believe that marriage is not necessary to stay with the person you love. Laws today also help those in common law relationships to get the same right s as those that are married. after living together so for so long your considered common law and can usually obtain your partners health benefits through work and if something was to ever happen to your partner there assets can be left to the partner so in their eyes marriage is just a formality or a ceremony to get a piece of paper saying that you want to be with this person for the rest of your life and they already know that.
Long distance relationships are hard to be in I say this from experiance the distance makes it hard to make a connection on a daily basis. Technology helps out those that are apart to stay connected with things as skype and facebook. If people in a long distance relationship are able to maintain their relationship and both member in the party are happy and fufilled they are meant to be togeather.
Open marriages is a wierd concept for many people and not talked about often. If we look at marriages in medival time the men would marry a women then they we sleep with that women and several others although they were not faithful to the one women but they remained married till death. In present time a large percentages of marriages end in divorce and of those divorces I'd guessa good portion were due to cheating. I think being with another person can help to stengthen your relationship with your partner as it brings out the characteristcs that you would get use to and over look. If a couple is accepting of one another and both agree to this type of lifestyle I see no problem with this type of relationship.
